Making Golf accessible to all
We are delighted to announce the commencement of the construction phase.
Following the successful planning appeal, permission was granted to introduce a fully integrated water harvesting scheme providing complete self-sufficiency in terms of water usage. Storing rainfall, to enable it to be used for irrigation, takes the pressure off the mains water supply and allows more of the course to be irrigated.
This will result in the course being less weather dependant and ensure an attractive landscape throughout the year. The provision of a harvesting pond, irrigation storage ponds, storage swales and sub-surface Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SuDS) will result in less surface water run-off from the site. Providing effective surface water drainage is vital for ensuring good winter playing conditions. The subtly amended surface profiles, create not only an efficient sustainable way of shedding water off the playing surfaces, but creates golfing, landscape and shot interest at the same time, with swales, wetland ditches and gentle fairway undulations.
Belview Golf’s aim is to offer a different experience of golf compared with the traditional club, by providing an open and welcoming environment to both the local and wider community and encouraging non-players to take up the game.
Belview Golf has worked with Weller Designs Ltd which is a highly experienced golf course design company, advising on every aspect of golf course development and operation. They are one of the leading experts in designing sustainable irrigation without the use of mains water..
The Pay & Play Golf Course has been carefully designed to be attractive, good fun, in excellent condition (all year round not just for a few months during the summer) and cost efficient.
At the new course, there will be covered practice bays which will allow the facility to be used throughout the year. The covered bays will encourage families, juniors, beginners and school children to play, opening the game to a wider audience.
The improved practice area will also incorporate a short-games “academy” for junior/beginner teaching with the creation of a putting and chipping green zone. The Golf Foundation is an organisation that promotes golf to the young not only as an active sport but also to develop “Skills for Life.” Junior based practice activities such as Tri-Golf and Golf Xtreme, which feature as part of the Golf Foundations programme, will be ideally suited to the new practice facilities. An important endorsement for many golf clubs is obtaining the ‘Golfmark’ accreditation which recognises the club’s beginner and junior friendly facilities. This is an endorsement Hertford Golf Club will aim to achieve.
The teaching and coaching role of the golf club will be further enhanced with the provision of the Golf Foundation Suite and Golf Simulation, providing state of the art training facilities for golfers of all levels. In common with all golf clubs, the club house will be equipped with changing facilities, a pro golf shop, a bar and golfers’ dining facilities.
